A Fall Sewing Update: My New Blouse Project – Simplicity 9470

Happy Saturday-

I’ve been playing around with a new project lately and thought I’d share a little update. Life has been busy, but getting back into creating has felt really good. I’m learning as I go, making mistakes, fixing them, and just enjoying the process. It’s not perfect — but it’s progress, and that’s what matters.

Right now I’m working on a blouse using Simplicity S9470. I grabbed the fabric last year from Tilted Quilters, our local quilt shop. Since JoAnn closed, they’ve started carrying fashion fabrics, and this one was too pretty to pass up. I’ve had this fabric sitting in my stash since last year, waiting for the right project — and this blouse finally felt like the one. If everything goes smoothly, I should have it finished by next week.

My favorite part of this pattern is the peplum. I’m not a “tuck‑your-shirt-in” kind of person, so the peplum gives it a nice feminine shape without feeling fussy. The back will have a zipper, so I’ll be adding interfacing to help the fabric support the weight — one of those little details that makes a big difference.

And on a totally different note… have you started your Christmas sewing yet? I’m looking through my projects and trying to decide what I actually want to make this year. I already have a few Christmas quilts and a table runner, so I’m not sure what direction I’m going next.

What are you working on these days? Have you started anything for Christmas yet?

And I hope you’re enjoying fall — the cooler mornings, the cozy evenings, all of it. With the clock moving back this weekend, maybe we’ll all get a little extra rest.

Happy Saturday,

Valerie
