Happy Saturday!
I hope you are having a wonderful week. July 4th is today, and I am starting on a new quilt to celebrate. I decided to do a patriotic quilt this year. No, it will not be done by tonight, but it will still be spectacular.
It is hard to believe that our country is celebrating 250 years. I have seen so much merchandise honoring this event. What better way to celebrate than with a quilt? It is something that can be cherished year after year.
I hope on this July 4th you take the time to enjoy your freedom and think of the sacrifices that were made so we could have freedom of religion and freedom of speech. America is not perfect and it has its problems, but it also provides a lot of opportunities.
Below is a photo of the pattern — it is from Laundry Basket Quilts. I saw a reel on Facebook and fell in love with it.

The fabric below will be the main colors. I purchased them from our local quilt store — some of it is from Riley Blake — and I also pulled a few pieces from my stash (another win!). While I was on vacation, I picked up a few more fat quarters that fit perfectly with the palette.

As you can see from the pattern, there are a lot of strips. I actually started cutting the strips this week. There are many pieces to cut, but once they’re all prepped, I believe the quilt will come together quickly. The design itself is so unique, which is exactly why I picked it. Will I make this quilt again? Probably not, simply because of the sheer volume of strips involved — but I’m excited to make it this once and enjoy how beautifully the pattern comes together.
The background fabric will be taupe. I want the quilt to have an antique look to match the pattern.
It will be fun seeing how everything comes together. I do appreciate that the designer made the pattern available as a PDF for immediate download so there is no wait to get started.
Let me know how you are celebrating our country’s 250 years. I’d love to hear how you’re celebrating or creating today.
Happy Sewing,
Valerie
