Creative Inspiration from “Craft a Life You Love”

Happy Saturday –

You’re definitely not alone if you’ve ever struggled to find time or motivation for your creative hobbies. This is especially true for sewing enthusiasts. We juggle work, home, and everything in between. It’s easy for our creative passions to slip to the bottom of the list. Recently, I started reading Craft a Life You Love by Amy Tangerine. The book is full of thoughtful reminders. These reminders really encouraged me. I wanted to share a few of the ideas that stood out. Maybe you need a little creative spark too.

Stop Trying to Be Someone Else

One of the biggest creativity blockers is comparison. We look at what others are making and suddenly feel like our own progress doesn’t measure up. But the truth is simple: You don’t need to be as good as someone else. Just be better than you were yesterday.

Comparison Steals Joy

Your hobbies, your pace, your style — they’re uniquely yours. When you stop comparing and start embracing your own creative journey, sewing becomes joyful again. Creativity thrives when we stop chasing perfection.

Give Yourself Grace in Your Failures

Mistakes happen — in sewing and in life. Instead of beating yourself up, offer yourself the same grace you’d give a friend. Learn the lesson, adjust, and keep going. Growth happens stitch by stitch.

Your Thoughts Shape Your Behavior

The way you talk to yourself matters. Positive thoughts lead to positive action. If you want to build a consistent sewing habit, start by shifting your mindset. A gentle, encouraging inner voice can change everything.

Create Before You Scroll

One of my favorite reminders from Craft a Life You Love is this: Set a craft ritual. Do this before you touch your social media feed. Even five minutes of intentional creativity can set the tone for your entire day. A warm cup of tea, a tidy sewing space, a few stitches — it all adds up.

Small Changes Create Big Transformation

I didn’t agree with everything in the book. I disagreed with the mention of palm reading. However, the bigger message still resonated: your thoughts determine your direction. And I truly believe that small, consistent changes can lead to powerful results — in sewing, creativity, and everyday life.

What Books Inspire You?

If you’ve read anything lately that encouraged your creativity, I’d love to hear about it. If something helped you build better habits, please share your recommendations. I’m always looking for my next inspiring read.

Happy Sewing!
