Beautiful quilt utilizing the Nantucket Summer Quilt
Quilt Pattern Review

Starting the New Year with a Quilt: Nantucket Summer Cake

Hope your New year has had a great start. We welcomed a new grandchild. Can’t get a better start than that.

One of my goals for January is to finish this queen quilt. The pattern was purchased on Etsy and the fabric is from Moda. The pattern is called Nantucket Summer Cake. The best part of using Moda is that their fabrics match well with each other. Even fabrics not in the cake layer coordinate excellently.

I started working on cutting out the fabric. I was surprised by the number of squares that needed to be cut out. It felt like I was cutting for hours. If I was to do this same quilt again, I would have purchased a charm pack.

Before starting sewing the squares together, I separated the colors. I separated the floral, the light and medium of the greens and blue. The goal was to make sure the colors were spread out evenly. When I neared the end of assembling the squares, I laid out the last 4 to 5 squares. This was to double check that the patterns were spread out over those last several blocks. I did not want to have my last square with only one or two patterns.

Once the cutting was completed, the quilt came together quickly. The hardest part was cutting out the pieces.

Here is a picture of the completed project.

Overall, I am happy with the results. Now I will be working on the quilting.

Are you working on any major projects?

Happy Sewing,

Valerie
