What is quiet sewing to you? I heard someone talking about this subject and found it very interesting. I am one of those who when they have a project go about 70-75 mph until it is done. Yes, there are mistakes and the detail is not what I usually want when the project is done. Here are a few things that I have done. This way, I can enjoy the process. I no longer bulldoze my way through the project just to jump to the next one.
Here are some examples of not slowing down and enjoying the process. Cut out pajama bottoms with the print upside down. Cut out fabric and forgot a piece. Started to get ready to sew and forgot to buy the right color of thread. Put a collar in upside down. The list could go on and on.

I have started listening to audiobooks, podcast, or Bible reading as I work. It takes my mind off of rushing thru the project and I start following what is being played. Hours will pass by before I realize how long that I have been sewing.

The 2nd thing that I do is I have my favorite beverage by the machine. Of course there is always a lid or a cap on it. This helps me take the breaks as needed and enjoy a hot cup of tea or water.

The 3rd thing that I do is ask myself is to slow down and double check my work. It will be easier to turn a square around. It is also easier to fix the shoulder in a blouse. This is better than realizing the issue and having to rip out all the seams. I keep reminding myself that once the project is done, I will be glad. I will be glad that I took the time to make sure it is right. This attention to detail probably will save time down the road.
These items above our things that I continually work on, I have not mastered this but I have improved. During this season, when we are juggling work, kids, the Christmas season and rushing around. We can take a break. We can enjoy the solace of listening to the machine as it sews. We can also think about the beauty of the project.
What are things you to do slow yourself down and do “quiet sewing”? We should remember why we picked this hobby. We wanted a break from the rat race. It’s important to truly enjoy the process. Honestly, I think if I keep working on this, I may complete my projects quicker. I make fewer mistakes this way.
Hope you are having a wonderful Christmas season
Happy Sewing-
