Slip Stitch Technique: Elevate Your Sewing Skills

I love doing most of my sewing by the machine. It is accurate and faster than I can hand sew. There are times that the hand sew is the best option and provides the best solution.

This shirt below had several times that slip stitching was necessary. It was used on the collar and the yoke.

Per the “Complete Guide to Sewing”, is a durable and almost invisible stitch for a folded hem edge. The stitches are slipped through the fold of the hem edge. It minimizie the possibility of the thread’s fraying or breaking .

When you are ready to start thread your needle and double knot both threads. This will help the stitches be more secure.

When slip stitching, you take the needle and make a small stitch to the fabric.

You then run the needle through the pressed hem and then again take a small stitch from the bottom fabric. It really doesn’t take very long and I usually am watching tv or listening to a book when doing this type of stitch.

The stitches are barely noticeable when it is completed. It really provides a tailored look to the garment.
