Creating a Fall Blouse: McCall’s M7360 Pattern Review

Happy Saturday

I love the fall. It is one of my favorite seasons. Unfortunately, in Florida, we do not necessarily get the colder temperatures. I decided to go ahead with fall colors with a short sleeve shirt.

The pattern is McCall’s M7360 and the fabric is from Persnickety Fabrics .

The top and back pieces were shorten by 1 inch since I am only 5 foot 2 inches. The bust darts went in easily. For crisp darts, I press down the dart on the tailors ham and utilize the clapper to push down.

The pockets went in easily. Gathering the bottom of the pocket makes it so much easier to have nice rounded curves.

The pockets were pressed under 5/8 and stitched on the blouse. I was so happy with the results.

The part of the pattern that I was most concerned about was cutting the seam down the middle. The tracing paper that I used did not give me dark enough lines. I had to go back and mark the 1/2 stitching line. Once i did the stitching, I had to cut it down the middle. Talk about some stress, cutting perfectly good fabric down the middle. Here is what it looked liked below.

Now, setting in the sleeves. The pattern didn’t state to gather the sleeves. I did go ahead and gather them at the top of the sleeves in between the small dots. It made it so much easier to put the sleeves in.

initially basted the sleeve into the blouse and then went back and serged the the sleeve for a finished edge.

Next was the buttons. I took time to practice putting in the buttons on scrap fabric from the shirt. I also opened the buttons to make sure the buttons fit thru the hole.

I had some trouble putting in the top button on the collar. The fabric was bulky in that area. I had to press it down several times and then marked the start and finish of the button hole. It finally went in and the shirt is done.

I am happy with the results of the shirt and yes would make it again. Have you done any fall sewing? What are your favorite colors? I love the orange and army green.

Happy Sewing,

Valerie
