Creative Solutions After JoAnn’s Closure

Happy Saturday,

Yes, it has been a while since I have posted. Life just got busy. I am just curious what folks are doing now that Joann’s is closed.

I have to admit, I am already missing this shop. It was easy to pop in buy the needles, threads and zippers with just one stop. The store was very convenient.

Below is how that I am finding items that I need.

Patterns –

I really enjoy Simplicity, Butterick and McCall’s patterns. My favorite thing was just to sit and go thru the books and pick out the pattern. It was wonderful getting patterns for $1.00 or $1.99. Let the creative juices flow.

Hobby Lobby is now having patterns sales. Keep you eye on their sales ad and stock up when it is for sale. I saw that they had the McCall’s patterns for .99 cents.

Purchasing patterns online thru Simplicity.com. The best part of buying online the pattern is the pattern is usually in stock. They have been putting their patterns on sale too. I was able to get patterns at $3.99.

Thread

Normally, I would stock up on my threads when they were on sale at Joann’s. I would have just about every color imaginable. I did notice that my thread would break in the machine often.

Now, I have been buying Aurfill at my local quilt shops. It is a way to help local businesses, and this thread does not break and seems to last forever. Changing to this brand has been a Win, Win for me.

Zippers

Joann’s had options for zippers with the colors, sizes and the multiple types of zippers.

Walmart and Hobby Lobby has zippers. When I was at Walmart, there was not a lot of choices, but I only needed a navy-blue zipper. Amazon also has zippers in multiple types, colors and sizes.

What have you been doing to fill the gap now that Joann’s is gone? Have you found a great website with reasonable prices that will ship to you. Share in the comments this will help others. As always, I love to hear from my readers

Happy Sewing-

Valerie
