Happy Saturday –
Hope you had a wonderful start of the year. Are you still working on your goals? I keep looking at my goals so I can stay on track. One of my goals is to sew clothes outside of my normal routine. I can quickly whip up a skirt. My goal is to expand my knowledge base. The best way to do that is just to try. It is only fabric and if it does do not work out. I can try again.
When I start a new pattern, I follow a couple of steps. This ensures that I get the result I want. First, I wash the fabric, don’t want to do all that work and find out it shrunk in the wash. Second, I serge the individual pattern pieces, so that I never have unfinished edges. Third, I read the pattern instructions from start to finish. Fourth, is make sure that I have everything that I need, like matching threads, zippers or any other notions.
Now working on this Simplicity S8872 pattern, the fabric was purchased at Beyond Fabrics. The fabric was so beautiful, I knew that I couldn’t leave it there. This is not the best fabric for January. But I live in Florida. It is 40 degrees one day and 80 degrees the next.

I was disappointed that the pattern had no petite adjustments in the length of the dress. The top will fit me fine, but the length is always an issue. I probably will shorten the skirt because I wanted to put on the lower band. The positive side is this dress has pockets. Who does not like pockets in their dress?
The fabric is little slippery since it is Rayon so I pinned the selvage together. I am working on the top now. The front of the dress is lower than I wanted it so I sewed it another 1/2 up.

I am looking forward to how this dress will turn out. Hopefully, next week I can show a finished project.
It is just the first week of January, how are your goals doing? They do not have to be about sewing. Stay strong, don’t let yourself doubt sneak in and take away your motivation. If you feel you are starting to sway, review your goals and why you are hoping to accomplish them. Let’s start 2025 strong.
Happy Sewing,
Valerie
