Happy Saturday-
With Christmas coming, many of us are spending more time cooking. I’ve ruined many shirts with grease stains. So, making an apron for the cooks on your list is a great gift idea. Aprons are becoming popular again, and there are many fabric options. The fabric stores are packed with just about anything you can think of.
I want to show you how to make an apron using McCalls pattern M5284 and fabric scraps from earlier quilts. I chose a simple pattern since we are getting so close to Christmas.

First, we’ll make the pocket. We’ve finished the top edge of the pocket and gathered the rounded edges at the bottom.

Next, we fold the top of the pocket so that the right sides are together and pin the edges and stitched. We then trimmed the corner of the pocket and turned the pocket out and pressed 5/8 seam to the pocket.

Once the pocket was turned out, we sewed it onto the apron, aligning the symbols. I also serged the whole apron to save time.

Next, I folded the neckband in half and sewed a 3/8 inch seam, then turned it right side out. I did the same with the ties.

I couldn’t find my tool for turning the ties and neckband. I used a small rod to help push the fabric through. It took some time, but I managed to turn it out.
Then, I attached the neckband to the top of the apron and hemmed the top of the apron.

Attached the apron ties at the corner of the apron and then hemmed the entire apron.

This apron turned out to be very cute and would make a great gift for someone on your list.

Let me know what you have been sewing for gifts. We can learn from each other and come up with beautiful gifts for our friends and families.
Happy sewing,
Valerie
