Happy Saturday,
Hope you have a wonderful week. It seems like this year just flew by. It is hard to believe that it is already November with Thanksgiving & Christmas just around the corner. Just wondering if you have started playing Christmas music. I haven’t yet but the mood will be hitting me soon.
My goals this year and going into next year is to push my sewing skills. I want to continuously improve my sewing skills and knowledge. I have a habit of returning to the familiar because it is known but there is no learning in that.
We are just at the beginning stages of this jacket. The fabric was purchased at Joann’s which really worked in my favor. When I laid out the pattern pieces, I did not have enough fabric. Honestly, I felt like I was playing Tetris. I turned and flipped pattern pieces to make this work and finally had to make a 2nd run to Joann’s. This really surprised me because normally I have more than enough fabric. I was about of 1/8 yard short. So back to Joann’s, I went to buy the extra fabric.

I am looking forward to working with this pattern from Simplicity S8844. The pieces are done by cup sizes, which helps with the fit. I have used similar patterns like this one for a t-shirts. I find that there are fewer adjustments that will need to be made.

Since it is a jacket there is interfacing in the front pieces, and collar. I used a heavier interfacing for the collars and lighter one for the jacket. I do not want the front of the jacket to be stiff and bulky.

Let me know if you have worked with this pattern before. Any tips or suggestion? I am working on the pocket and trying to decide what I should embroidery on it. I am going to keep it black. My goal is to have it add some subtle details.
Happy Saturday
Valerie
