One Knit Dress with so many Possibilities

Happy Staturday

We have had an exciting week with the storm coming thru Florida. We were very fortunate since we only dealt with the winds and only lost power for 6 hours. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families as they try to rebuild their lives after the devastating storm.

I completed the black polka dot knit dress a while back. It is a pullover tunic with raglan sleeves. The fabric is from JoAnn’s and the pattern is a McCall’s pattern M7122.

Just a quick note on the pattern is that it only had four pattern pieces and it would be a great beginner pattern. The dress has a flattering shape in the waistline with a full skirt which keeps the dress from being too tight. I will definitely use the pattern again and already have fabric set aside for the project.

There are multiple possibilities with wearing this dress. You can pair the dress with a denim jacket, a sweater, scarf or put a belt on it. Next week, I will show the different ways that I have worn this dress.

Tips for sewing knits –

  • When cutting out the fabric, do not allow the fabric to hang off the edge of the table. This will cause your fabric stretch and will distort the shape.
  • Use needles specifically for knits
  • Do not put on the fabric as you sew again this could affect the shape
  • If you have the serger, utilize the blind hem. This will give it a very professional look at the bottom.

Do you have any tips for sewing with knits?

Happy sewing,

Valerie
