Creative Pillow Making with Leftover Denim Fabric | Embroidery Library Designs

Happy Saturday –

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend. This month I have attended two virtual classes on the “Perfect Blouse” by Katrina Walker. I learned several techniques and will put it into practice over the next several weeks. This was actually my first time attending a live virtual class and it was so much better than expected. Let me know in the comments below any classes that you have attended virtually that have been a help on your sewing journey. A couple of things that I learned was to press any side darts up instead of down and utilizing the feed dogs in the machine to evenly sew in the ease of the sleeve instead of using the gathering stitch.

I love pillows and sewen dozens of pillows over the years. As I was going thru my fabrics, I found left over fabric from my denim jacket that would work great for these pillows.

The designs were from Embroidery Library. I initially made the denim squares 24 x 24. Once the embroidery was completed, I cut the size down to match the design. Then sewed up the pillows, leaving a small opening at the bottom, pressed and turned them right side out. Before I turn out the pillow, I cut the corners above the stitching to reduce the bulk. I also use a point turner to push them out. I have learned to always leave the opening at the bottom of the pillow, so the last stitching isn’t visible.

My favorite part is stuffing these pillows. One trick that I have learned is not to over stuff them. It is so much easier to sew up the opening when it is bulging at the seams.

This project cost was the embroidery designs and Scotch Guard. This was a very low-cost project since I was basically using what I have on hand.

This year I am determined to make a significant dent in my fabric stash. What projects are you doing to make a dent in your sewing stash? Are you even interested in lowering your fabric?

Happy Sewing,

Valerie
