DIY Fabric Table Runner – Upcycling Project for Home Decor

May 11, 2024

Happy Saturday!

Hope you are having a great weekend. We have a bridal shower this weekend for my daughter, and we just finished putting in a paved path to our pool. This was a lot of work but hopefully we will get enjoyment out of it this summer. I honestly believe we are busier this month than in December.

This year, I am striving to utilize the fabrics that I have on hand. Saw a picture of table runner on Pinterest and decided to make my own version.

Here are the general guidelines. I would measure your table and then decide how long and how much you want the runner to come off the table. You should be able to determine how much fabric you will need.

The blue fabric was from a dear friend and the white fabric was left over from a Christmas project. I cut the fabric initially into 5″ squares and then cut them in half. Sewed each of the half squares together. Cut the white fabric the WOF at 5 inches wide and then 3.5 inches wide. Then sewed the 5″ wide fabric together and then sewed the 3.5″ fabric together. Pressed open all seams and then sewed the 3.5″ fabric to the top and the 5 ” wide fabric to the bottom.

Cut the backing fabric and the batting to the length of the runner with some room to spare on the width and length of the runner. Sandwiched the quilt and utilized adhesive spray to keep it together. I then marked the fabric every two inches and quilted the fabric. Added the binding and was done.

This added a lot of color to the dining room and it didn’t cost me a dime. It was a great way to utilize what I already have to decorate my home.

Here’s a project I completed for my home that added beauty without spending any money. Let me know of some scrap busting project that you have. I always enjoy hearing from my readers.

Your sewing friend,

Valerie
