Jordan Jacket

November 17, 2023

Happy Saturday –

This is such a busy weekend as we are preparing for Thanksgiving and of course Christmas right behind it. One of our traditions is a fresh pumpkin pie, this morning I was busily cooking the pumpkins, so we are ready to make the pies. We always cook our pumpkin because the taste of fresh pumpkin versus can is unbelievable.

My next project is going to be the Jordan Jacket from Serendipity Studios. I have had this pattern for years because I love the jacket, but I am honestly worried about the technical aspect. My biggest concern is the pockets and the buttonholes. Yes, I have put in many buttonholes, but it still makes me nervous.

At times, I get in a rut and sew the same basic pattern with different fabrics over and over and afraid to branch out to something new. Yesterday, I was listening to a sewing blogger who reminded me if you get stuck on how to utilize a technique go to a You Tube video to watch the tutorial. Don’t let being afraid of trying something new, keep you from sewing what you love.

The fabric I purchased in Norcross, Georgia at the Fine Fabrics. This is the largest apparel store that I have ever been in. It is like going to Disney World for a seamstress. It has everything from formal wear, knits, swimwear, silks and much, much more. The prices are reasonable and there is a variety to choose from.

The fabric is an off-white denim will provide several choices for outfits. It is heavy enough for a “Florida Winter” or for overachieving ac units.

I have started sewing the back of the jacket and I love the way it is looks with the double top stitching. I will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.

Let me know what some of your Thanksgiving traditions are and do you have a pattern that you have been sitting on your shelf because you are concerned about all the details. Put your comments below, I love to hear from my readers.

Happy Sewing,

Valerie
