Happy Saturday!
Hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend and enjoy this Easter Weekend. We will be enjoying Easter with our entire family at my mom’s. It will be loud, crazy, too much food but not boring.
The fabric is knit was found in the bargain bin at the Sewing Studio, Maitland, FL. The small floral print suits me but the issue was they only had 2 yards and the pattern called for 2.25 yards. You would not think that 1/4 yard would make that much difference, oh but it did.
Since there was limited knit fabric, I was unable to follow the suggested pattern layout. The pattern was shortened, and pieces were turned around so that we could get everything squeezed in.
I have used this pattern multiple times, but it looks very different with this navy floral than it does in a jersey knit. This dress with a white denim jacket is my plan for Easter.

Knit can be challenging to sew and especially with hemming. We all have experienced the rolling of the hemline on knits. My serger has the ability to do an overstitch. The only downside is that you have to move the needles, change settings and re-thread the machine. It does take about 10 minutes to get this changed over but the results are worth it. The serger had the hemming done in no time and now the dress has a professional look with no rolling.
If you have the ability on the serger, I recommend practicing on scrap fabric. Don’t be afraid of trying something new on your machine, use the scraps that you have saved. It is so worth it. Once you have learned the technique, you will love it. Here is how it turned out.

When you do the cover stitch, utilize a lot of pins to keep everything in place. Knit loves to slip around and this will keep you hem even.
Do you have any tips on utilizing the cover stitch? Love hearing from my readers.
Happy Sewing!
