Simple Tab Top Curtains

The window is exactly 36 inches wide. Purchased 2 yards of fabric, cut off the selvage and then cut the fabric down the middle. The purpose of these curtains was for decoration. If it was needed to provide privacy, the curtain would have been lined and doubled. Once, the fabric was cut, I serge all the edges.

The length was determined with a 4-inch hem on the top and a 1-inch hem on the bottom with the curtain reaching 3 inches below the window ledge. The length of each panel had two inches taken off.

The fabric that was cut off, was folded with right sides touching and pressed to make the fabric loops. Sewed the edges together with a 1/4 inch and turned the fabric. Cut each strip at 3 inches and serge the ends.

Hemmed the curtains on all 4 edges. Heming at 1 inch on the left, right and bottom and 4 inches for the top. The tabs were added 1/2 from the edge and then 5 inches apart.

Below is the end result of the project.

I feel the tab top made a better look with the curtains than the rod pocket. Let me know what curtains you have been sewing.

Happy Sewing
