Merry Christmas!
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas. This season is so enjoyable because you get to spend extra time with your loved ones and yearly family traditions. My favorites are to check out the lights, watch Christmas movies and listen to Christmas music. Every Christmas eve, we go to mom’s house, eat spaghetti, make gingerbread houses and play games. This makes great memories.
For Christmas, I asked to have a cutting table and a sewing table. My current cutting table was a fold out table, and I also had a small sewing desk that was made for only for one machine but was holding two. After reviewing the costs of pre-made sewing tables and cutting tables, I quickly realized, they were outside of my budget, but Pinterest had some creative ideas of making your own cutting table. We measured my sewing room and made some changes that would work for my sewing room.
The bookshelves were from Amazon. We purchased two 9-cubes, two 3-cubes and two 4-cubes. The wood was picked up from Home Depot. We also purchased quarter round molding to edge both of tabletops. The size of the sewing table is 25″ by 88″, and the cutting table is 48×48. I really wanted to have the cutting table at 48 x 60 but it would have taken up too much space. Maybe next year, I will ask Santa for a “She Shed.” 😊
The bookshelves needed to be stable, so a hardboard was added to the back of the bookshelves and nailed in. Corner brackets were used on the top and bottom to secure the bookshelves together for cutting table.

The sewing table will hold a full-size embroidery/sewing machine, serger and a laptop so we added additional boards under the table to strengthen it. Picture is below. The table is now very sturdy and will be able to hold the weight of the machines. We joked that we could also use the sewing table as a twin bed for company.

We filled in the screw holes and the space between the wood and quarter round with wood putty and then sanded down the boards. Oh, did that ever make a mess. The last step was to paint the tables. We used the Door & Trim pain from Glidden with High Gloss, and we applied two coats.

This project turned out better than I expected, and I can’t wait to start sewing. My sewing room is a makeover in progress, and I will share the updates as we finish up this room.

Let me know what sewing gifts that you received this year.
Happy Sewing!
Valerie
