Happy Belated Saturday,
I wanted to show everyone what I have been up to for the last several weeks. I making a queen size quilt for my bed. The fabrics are from my stash and I also supplemented a couple new patterns from a recent Quilt Shop Hop. Even though I usually sew clothes, I love the quilt process. Nothing is better than curling on the couch with a good movie and a quilt that you have made.
The quilt when completed, will fit a queen size bed. Due to the size, I had to cut out 182 6 inch squares with 6 different patterns. I also cut 168, 2×6 inch strips of white.
Once, I cut out the squares and strips, I attached a white strip to the right side of each square except for the last square on the strip.

This quilt will need 13 squares to make one row and it will need 14 rows for the length.

Once the row is completed, you will need another 2 inch strip the same length as your quilt to sew across the bottom of your row and then attach the next row of squares.

A couple of tips that I have learned –
- Not all whites are the same. I was using Kona white and ran out but I found some more white in my fabric stash. I cut up the fabric and started to sew it on and realized that the whites were not even close. Lesson Learned!
- When matching stripes, take your time. I had a couple of times where I pined it up sewed the whole strip and realized I had to take everything out.
I am curious to know if there are other garment sewers who also dabble in the quilting world. Let me know…
