Happy Saturday!
It has been a busy couple of weeks. Last week, I attended the Sewing Expo in Lakeland, FL. This is a great event with classes and shopping and boy did I ever do a lot of shopping. I bought the fabric for this dress from The Sewing Studio. This vendor always has great knit fabrics every year at fantastic prices. This knit was just $5.00 a yard. You can’t beat the price. If you get a chance to attend this event, you should. It is worth it. Here is there schedule.

The dress was sewn mostly on the serger. The hem was completed with the cover stitch. The cover stitch helps keep the hem from curling. You can use a sewing machine when doing knits. Knits don’t unravel so you do not have to finish the seams. I chose to finish my seams with using serger, zig zag or you can also use pinking shears.
The dress was for my daughter. The only hiccup in making the dress was the armholes were too large. The sleeves/shoulder area was taken in about 1/4 inch on both sides of the shoulder. This reduced the size of the armhole and helped with the fitting.
What have you been doing to increase your skills? What classes or books have you read? Let me know.
