Knit Top – McCalls 70211

Happy Saturday!

I just love sewing with knits.  Joann’s currently has a great selection.  When I saw this pink paisley knit, I was in love.  The fabric was on sale, so how could I go wrong.

There were several modifications that was done on this pattern.  The neckline was raised using the curve ruler and the length was shortened about one inch.

As for the pattern, the directions were easy to follow.  It is a project that could be completed in one day.  You can almost sew the entire shirt on your serger.  If you don’t have a serger, the seams don’t have to be finished since knits don’t unravel.  If you want to have a finished look, an easy way is to trim your seams with pinking shears.

When working with the knits, the fabric has a tendency to slip.  In order to keep the fabric in place, Wonder Tape was used on the neckline while stitching it down.  The sleeves were based in before serging.     I have a previous article that I have written, Five Tips for Working with Knits.

Would I sew this pattern again?  Most definitely, I have actually made 3 shirts with this pattern.  I have received so many compliments and the shirt is so comfortable.

Let me know what you are sewing with knits!
