May
Happy Saturday!
I know it has been a while, since my last post. May has been a busy month for our family with a HS graduation, college students returning home and Memorial Day.
Here is one of my latest sewing projects. The pattern is from Simplicity 2498. As you can see, we did some modifications. This is a sewing perk, when you get to be the designer.
These are the changes that I made. Instead of using the lace for the bodice, I used the silver fabric. The bodice front was modified in the neck depth. We also added the silver trim and decorative button for an additional pop.
This is the 2nd time, that I have made this dress. The pattern instructions were easy to follow and the pattern came together easily. When I work with these fabrics, I purposely take my time. The fabric can sometimes not be very forgiving when mistakes are made.
The fabric was purchased from JoAnn’s. I believed the total cost of the fabric and trim was around $60.00. I had a friend purchase her daughter’s prom dress and it was $350.00. This was a definite savings.
The best tip when sewing with chiffon or satin fabrics is your needle. If you do not use the correct needle, the fabric will run. The correct needle is a Microtex. This will save you from unnecessary drama. I would recommend to get in the habit to make sure that you change out the needle regularly and use the correct needle for the fabric you are sewing on.
Let me know of your tips on sewing for these fabrics.
