Hemming with Knits

Happy Saturday –

I love wearing knits.  The fabric is so comfortable.  As you know,  knits can be challenging while sewing.  The fabric is slippery and needs a lot pins to keep the fabric straight.

You can hem your knits with a regular stitch but I have found that the stitches are not even.    I have also stretched out the fabric.  The answer is the cover stitch.  This keeps the knits from stretching and gives a professional look to the clothes.

The cover stitch can be found on the serger.  If you are planning to sew with knits, I would highly recommend that you considered this function when purchase your next serger.

As you can see from the pictures, the hem is laying flat.  The fabric did not stretch while hemming the skirt.

My goal is for my clothes not to look home sewn.  I want the garments to  look better than the clothes that you find at the department store.

Let me know of some of your tips on working with knits.
