- Schedule it. I know, a lot of people, do not like to follow a schedule. I promise you it works. Try putting aside 15 minutes a day. An option to consider, take a day off of work. I have done it. When my children were younger, I would schedule a day off when they were in school. I would get up and dress for work, so they had no idea. I had one child, if she knew I was off, would have an instant tummy ache.
- Find a sewing spot. Your spot could be anything from a spare room, front room or a corner in the living room. Somewhere, you can have your sewing machine set up and you don’t have to constantly put it away. It is easier to find time, when your equipment is ready to go. You will not be dreading having to lug out a heavy machine.
- Plan fun projects. Hemming pants is not one of my favorite projects. If this is all you have planned, your motivation will go out the window. Instead tell yourself, when I finish these pants, I can start on the purse, skirt, dress or whatever project interests you.
- Sign up for a class. Once you attend a class with folks who have the same passion, you will come home pumped and ready to dive in to your next project. I learn more than just what the teacher has to say. I learn tips from other sewers.
- Reduce your obligations. Have the kids help with chores around the house. Plan your meals in advance. Try to use a crock pot or the Instant-Pot to cook dinner.
I hope this helps. These are tips that have worked for me thru the years. Here is a great quote that I found.
“Either you run the day, or the day runs you.’ — Jim Rohn
